Why Choose a Lightweight Folding Power Chair?
A standard power chair is built to stay assembled: it is stable and comfortable, but it needs a hoist, a ramp or a van to go anywhere. A lightweight motorised wheelchair folds in seconds and is light enough for a partner, carer or taxi driver to lift into a car boot, which makes shopping trips, medical appointments, holidays and cruises far simpler to plan.
Folding also solves storage. A folded chair fits beside a bed, in a hallway cupboard or in a small apartment, and takes up less room in an aged care unit or caravan. For many users the result is independence with less planning, and for carers it is fewer heavy lifts. Our most reviewed model, the Easwe B10 lightweight folding electric wheelchair, is a good starting point if you are unsure which to pick.

How to Choose a Lightweight Folding Electric Wheelchair
Buying guide last updated 29 September 2026.
Six things decide whether a folding chair works for you day to day: what it weighs when you lift it, whether it fits your boot, how it folds, what the frame is made of, how far the battery goes, and whether the seat and width suit your body and your doorways. Work through them in order.
Chair Weight: With or Without the Battery?
Easwe lightweight folding electric wheelchairs weigh between 11.3 kg and 20 kg without the battery, based on the manufacturer specifications on each product page. The lightest model is the carbon fibre C30 at 11.3 kg, and the lightest aluminium model is the D10 at approximately 15.8 kg. Always check whether a retailer is quoting the weight with or without the battery.
Quoted weights differ because some sellers list the frame only and others list the whole chair with the battery, cushion and footrest. The number that matters for lifting is the weight without the battery, because you remove the battery before you lift. For car loading and airline paperwork, allow for the battery on top of the chair weight. Easwe product pages quote chair weight without the battery wherever the manufacturer states it.
Folded Size and Car Boot Fit
Measure your boot opening (height and width) and the boot depth before you buy, and remember that hatchback and SUV openings are usually taller than sedan openings. Compare those measurements with the folded dimensions on the product page — folded length × width × height, for example 37 × 57 × 85 cm for the C10 and 60 × 58 × 101 cm for the B10. Many Easwe folding models will fit a mid-size sedan boot; a compact hatchback may need the chair loaded on its side. If you are not sure, contact our Perth team with your car model and we will check the folded size against it.
Manual Folding vs Automatic Folding
| Manual folding | Automatic folding |
|---|---|
| Lift the seat, push the frame together — takes a few seconds | Press one button on the remote or joystick and the motor folds the chair (only when unoccupied) |
| Lighter frames and a wider choice of prices | No bending or lifting the frame to fold it |
| Suits users who fold the chair once or twice a day, or have a carer | Suits users who fold and unfold several times a day, or have limited back or hand strength |
| C30, C20, C10, D10, B10, E10, B20 | Easwe F10 auto-folding electric wheelchair |
If you are searching for a foldable automatic wheelchair, the F10 is the model in this range that folds itself. It weighs 18.7 kg without the battery and folds to approximately 47.5 × 57 × 84 cm. Every other model folds by hand in a few seconds.
Carbon Fibre vs Aluminium Frames
The Easwe C30 carbon fibre electric wheelchair and the long-range C20 use a full carbon fibre frame, and the C10 uses a carbon fibre and aluminium hybrid. Carbon fibre is lighter and stiffer than aluminium for the same strength, so the chair is easier to lift and feels solid on footpaths, but the material costs more. The B10, B20, D10 and F10 use aluminium alloy, and the E10 uses aluminium with a carbon fibre coating — still light, more affordable, and the better value if the chair mostly stays in one car. If the lowest possible lift weight is the priority — for example one person lifting the chair alone — choose carbon fibre. If budget matters more, choose aluminium.
Battery Range and Removable Batteries
Real-world range is usually lower than the figure on a spec sheet. Easwe range figures are measured on flat terrain with a 75 kg user; heat, hills, rough surfaces, a heavier user and frequent stops all reduce how far one charge goes, so treat the rated range as a best case. All Easwe folding models use removable lithium batteries, so you can charge the battery indoors away from the chair. Most models run on one 12Ah battery (up to approximately 24 km) and offer a two-battery option — one fitted, one carried as a spare — for up to approximately 48 km in total. The C20 instead runs two 10Ah batteries together for up to approximately 40 km. Spare batteries and chargers are stocked in Perth.
Seat Width, Doorways and User Weight Capacity
Measure the narrowest doorway or hallway the chair must pass through and compare it with the overall width of the chair, not the seat width. Then measure your hips while seated and allow a little room for clothing. Choose a chair whose maximum user weight is comfortably above your own weight plus anything you carry: the C30 and C20 are rated to 120 kg, the F10 to 100 kg, and the other models to 113 kg. If you need a higher capacity, a reclining backrest or a headrest, see our reclining and heavy-duty electric wheelchairs.
Travelling With a Folding Electric Wheelchair
Portability is the reason most people buy a travel electric wheelchair. Here is what to check before you fly, and how to make cars, taxis and cruises easier.
Flying: Battery Rules and Airline Notice
Selected Easwe models use a removable lithium battery with UN38.3 certification — confirm on the product page and with your airline before flying, because the airline makes the final decision. To take a folding electric wheelchair on a plane:
- Check the product page for the UN38.3 certification and battery details.
- Notify your airline at least 48 hours before departure. Many airlines, including Qantas, require dangerous goods approval for any battery-powered mobility aid.
- Remove the battery before check-in and follow the airline's instructions on where it travels.
- Fold the chair and hand it over at the gate or check-in as instructed.
Read the airline's own guidance, for example Qantas mobility assistance, and the IATA lithium battery guidance.
Cars, Taxis, Cruises and Rideshare
Give the folded dimensions and the lift weight when you book a taxi, maxi-taxi or rideshare so the driver knows what to expect. On cruises, a folded chair stores in a standard cabin, which is usually easier than booking an accessible cabin for a scooter. Keep the battery charged and the charger in your hand luggage, and pack the battery separately from the chair in the boot.
Who Is This Recommended For?
- Seniors who want to keep going out but can no longer walk long distances
- NDIS and Support at Home participants, subject to plan approval
- Carers and partners who need a chair they can lift into a car on their own
- Travellers, cruise passengers and grey nomads who need a chair that folds for a caravan or plane
- Part-time users who walk short distances at home but need powered mobility for shopping, appointments and outings
A lightweight folding chair may suit you if lifting and transport are your main concern. If you sit in the chair all day or need postural support, a heavier reclining model may be more appropriate — an occupational therapist can advise which type matches your needs.

Lightweight Folding Electric Wheelchair FAQs
How much does a lightweight folding electric wheelchair weigh?
Easwe lightweight folding electric wheelchairs weigh between 11.3 kg and 20 kg without the battery, per the manufacturer specifications on each product page. The lightest is the carbon fibre C30 at 11.3 kg. Remove the battery before lifting the chair, and check whether a retailer is quoting the weight with or without the battery.
What is the lightest electric wheelchair in Australia you sell?
The Easwe C30 carbon fibre electric wheelchair is the lightest model in our range at 11.3 kg without the battery, followed by the carbon fibre C20 at approximately 12.7 kg. The lightest aluminium model is the D10 at approximately 15.8 kg, from $1,399. Weights are listed on each product page.
Will a folding electric wheelchair fit in my car boot?
Many Easwe folding models will fit a mid-size sedan, hatchback or SUV boot. Measure your boot opening and depth and compare them with the folded dimensions on the product page — for example, the C10 folds to 37 × 57 × 85 cm. Compact hatchbacks may need the chair loaded on its side. Send us your car model and we will check the fit for you.
Can I take a folding electric wheelchair on a plane?
Selected Easwe models have a removable lithium battery with UN38.3 certification, designed to meet airline lithium battery requirements, but the airline makes the final decision. Check the product page, notify your airline at least 48 hours before you fly and ask about dangerous goods approval, and remove the battery before check-in.
What is the difference between manual folding and automatic folding?
A manual folding chair folds by hand in a few seconds and is available across a wider price range. An automatic folding chair, such as the Easwe F10, folds itself at the press of a button on the remote or joystick, so there is no bending or lifting of the frame. The F10 must only be folded when nobody is seated. Choose automatic if you fold the chair several times a day.
How much does a lightweight folding electric wheelchair cost in Australia?
Easwe lightweight folding electric wheelchairs cost from $1,198.95 for the aluminium B20 to $2,999 for the carbon fibre C30, in AUD, with dual-battery options priced higher. Carbon fibre frames, automatic folding and longer-range batteries sit at the higher end. Payment plans are available at checkout and NDIS participants can request an itemised quote.
Can I try a folding electric wheelchair in Perth before buying?
Yes. Our warehouse is in Forrestdale, Perth, and demonstrations are available by appointment so you can test the fold, the lift weight and the seat width. Call 08 6186 0001 to book. Perth metro customers can also collect their chair locally, and all models ship Australia-wide with tracking.
Should I choose a folding electric wheelchair or a folding mobility scooter?
A folding electric wheelchair is joystick-controlled, turns in a tighter circle and suits indoor use and people who cannot steer a tiller. A folding scooter suits longer outdoor distances for users with good upper-body strength and balance. Compare our folding mobility scooters if outdoor range is your priority.
Important note: Electric wheelchairs are assistive devices. Please check with your doctor, occupational therapist or physiotherapist to confirm the model, seat width and weight capacity are suitable for your condition and needs, and always stay within the chair's rated capacity. NDIS and Support at Home funding is subject to your plan and approval. Airline carriage is at the discretion of the airline.
