Hernia Belts

Dealing with the pain and discomfort of having a hernia is not a nice thing at all. An organ protruding out of your body can mean that you may not be able to go about your usual activities or wear the clothes that you love. While many people will need to have surgery to fix their hernia, your doctor may advise you to wear a hernia belt or hernia truss to hold it in place with the hope of it reducing or moving back into place. Alternatively, you can wear one following surgery.

Types of Hernia Belts

Hernia belts come in different shapes and sizes. One of the most common types hernia truss is the groin belt which has compression pads and holds everything in place with an opening in the groin area. Another kind is a wraparound belt which goes around your abdomen. You can wear both kinds discreetly under clothing so that nobody needs to know that you are wearing one. Make sure to do your research so that you find the right type for your condition.

How to Wear

Making sure that your hernia belt or truss fits well and sits in the right place is vital to your recovery. Hernia belt pads should go over the defected area so that they can help to reduce it. The belt or truss should be secure, gentle but firm so that there is pressure to push the protruding organ back in. As time passes and the bulge goes down, you should tighten the straps to allow for continuous pressure to the area.

Who can Wear

Both men and women can wear unisex hernia belts, but only if they have a reducible hernia or are recovering from hernia surgery.

Speak to your Doctor

Before using a hernia belt, make sure to consult with your doctor first. Wearing a belt over a non-reducible hernia can cause further tissue damage and therefore delay or stop the recovery process.
