A reclining electric wheelchair is designed for people who spend long periods in their chair and need to change position, rest or take pressure off the lower back without transferring out. Our three Easwe comfort models all have a headrest and are rated from 113 kg to 136 kg. The G10 and B10 recline, and the L10 has a fixed 3D winged backrest with a seat that raises from 40 to 60 cm. The G10's 136 kg rating is the highest in the Easwe range, above the 100–120 kg ratings of our lightweight electric wheelchairs in Australia. The B10 and L10 are held in Perth stock and the G10 is currently on pre-order. The guide below explains how to match the weight capacity, recline function and seat size to the user, and what "heavy-duty" means in this range.

Comfort and Support for All-Day Use

A reclining electric wheelchair is a joystick-controlled powered wheelchair whose backrest tilts back from upright to a reclined position, usually with a matching headrest. It lets the user rest, reposition and relieve pressure without leaving the chair, which makes it more comfortable for long periods of sitting than a fixed-back chair.

Sitting upright in the same position for hours is tiring, and it is the main reason people give up on a standard power chair. A reclining backrest with a headrest supports the head and neck, spreads pressure across the back, and gives the user a comfortable position for a rest on a long outing. The G10 and B10 add suspension in the seat and front wheels to smooth out footpaths and kerb ramps, and the G10 has dual 250W motors (500W total) for a heavier user on gentle slopes. Every model here still folds for transport, though they weigh more than our lightweight range.

How to Choose a Reclining or Heavy-Duty Electric Wheelchair

Buying guide last updated 29 September 2026.

Start with the weight capacity, because it is a safety limit, not a comfort preference. Then decide whether recline and a headrest are needed, check the seat measurements, and only then weigh up outdoor performance, range and portability.

Match the Weight Capacity to the User

Our lightweight folding electric wheelchairs are rated from 100 kg to 120 kg. In this range, the Easwe G10 is rated to 136 kg — the highest in the Easwe range — with the L10 at 120 kg and the B10 at 113 kg. Choose a chair whose rating sits comfortably above the user's weight plus clothing, a bag and anything carried on the lap, and never rely on the rating as an exact ceiling.

Chair type Maximum user weight
Easwe lightweight folding electric wheelchairs 100–120 kg
Easwe B10 (this range) 113 kg
Easwe L10 (this range) 120 kg
Easwe G10 (this range) 136 kg
If you or the person you care for weighs more than 136 kg, none of the chairs on this page are suitable. Please talk to our team about higher weight capacities before ordering — we would rather point you to the right chair than sell one that is under-rated.

Reclining Backrest and Headrest: Who Benefits?

A reclining backrest may suit users who sit in the chair for most of the day, tire easily when upright, or need to rest during outings. A headrest may help users who need head and neck support, particularly when reclined or when travelling over uneven ground. The Easwe G10 reclining electric wheelchair reclines from 90° to 145°, with leg rests that adjust in step with the backrest and a multi-directional headrest. The Easwe B10 with headrest has a backrest that reclines to multiple positions and an adjustable headrest. Only recline when the chair is stationary. The L10 does not recline, but every L10 comes with a 3D winged backrest and headrest. Whether recline is the right feature is a seating decision, so it is best made with an occupational therapist — you can find an OT through Occupational Therapy Australia.

Seat Width, Depth and Height

To measure for an electric wheelchair seat:

  1. Sit on a firm chair and measure across the widest point of the hips, then add 2–3 cm for clothing. This is your seat width. Seat widths in this range are 42 cm (B10), 45 cm (L10) and 45.7 cm (G10).
  2. Measure from the back of the buttocks to the back of the knee, then subtract 3–5 cm. This is your seat depth.
  3. Measure from the back of the knee to the floor with shoes on. This is your seat-to-floor height.
  4. Compare all three with the size chart on the product page and check the overall width against your doorways.

If a different seat height would make transfers, table dining or reaching a bench easier, the Easwe L10 with adjustable seat height sets the seat anywhere from 40 cm to 60 cm, with manual or electric adjustment. The height must be set before the user sits down — the seat is not designed to be raised or lowered while occupied.

Outdoor Use: Suspension, Tyres and Motors

These chairs are built for footpaths, shopping centres, parks, gravel paths and gentle slopes. The G10 and B10 are rated for slopes up to 12° and the L10 up to 8°. Puncture-proof tyres never need inflating, suspension on the G10 and B10 absorbs kerb ramps and rough paving, and the L10's Mecanum front wheels turn in a 76 cm radius for tight indoor spaces. They are outdoor electric wheelchairs, not all-terrain vehicles: avoid soft sand, deep gravel, steep grass and slopes beyond the rating, and slow down on wet surfaces.

Battery Range and Dual Batteries

The G10 runs two 10.4Ah lithium batteries together for up to approximately 40 km between charges. The B10 (12Ah, up to approximately 24 km) and the L10 (11.4Ah, up to approximately 22.5 km) can be ordered with a second battery carried as a spare, roughly doubling the total range. Real-world range depends on user weight, hills, surface, heat and stop-start driving, so treat the rated range as a best case on flat ground. All batteries are removable and can be charged indoors away from the chair, and spares are held in Perth.

Portability Trade-Offs

Reclining and heavy-duty chairs weigh more than compact models because of the larger seat, stronger frame, suspension and extra battery. Without the battery, the B10 weighs 18 kg, the L10 25 kg and the G10 30 kg. All three still fold, but lifting the L10 or G10 into a car boot is usually a two-person job or needs a ramp or hoist. If lifting the chair is a daily task and comfort features are less important, look at our lightweight folding electric wheelchairs instead.

Who Is This Recommended For?

  • Users who sit in their chair for most of the day and need to change position or rest
  • People who need head and neck support from an adjustable headrest
  • Users up to 136 kg who need more capacity than a 100–120 kg chair (Easwe G10)
  • Outdoor users who need suspension and stability on footpaths, parks and gravel paths
  • Aged care residents and Support at Home clients who need all-day comfort, as advised by an OT
  • NDIS participants whose therapist has recommended a reclining or higher-capacity chair, subject to plan approval

NDIS and Support at Home Funding

Tynor Australia (Australian Healthcare Supplies) is a registered NDIS provider in Perth. Reclining and higher-capacity chairs are usually funded under NDIS Assistive Technology and often need an OT seating assessment, so we can send our quote and product specifications straight to your OT or support coordinator. Itemised quotes are available for self-managed, plan-managed and NDIA-managed participants, and for Support at Home clients, subject to your NDIS plan and approval. Reclining & Heavy-Duty Electric Wheelchair FAQs

What is the weight limit of your heavy-duty electric wheelchairs?

The highest rating in our range is 136 kg on the Easwe G10, followed by the L10 at 120 kg and the B10 at 113 kg, per the manufacturer specifications on each product page. Our lightweight folding models are rated from 100 kg to 120 kg. Always stay within the chair's rated capacity.

Do I need a reclining electric wheelchair?

A reclining electric wheelchair may suit you if you sit in your chair for most of the day, become tired or sore when upright, or need to rest without transferring. If you use the chair only for outings, a fixed-back lightweight model is lighter and cheaper. An occupational therapist can advise which suits your needs.

Which electric wheelchairs come with a headrest?

All three models here have a headrest. The Easwe G10 has a multi-directional headrest on a 90°–145° reclining backrest, the B10 has an adjustable headrest on a reclining backrest, and every L10 comes with a 3D winged backrest and headrest, although the L10 backrest does not recline. Headrests support the head and neck when reclined or on uneven ground.

Can a reclining electric wheelchair be used outdoors?

Yes. These models have puncture-proof tyres for footpaths, shopping centres, parks, gravel paths and gentle slopes, and the G10 and B10 add seat and front-wheel suspension. The G10 and B10 are rated for slopes up to 12° and the L10 up to 8°. They are not all-terrain chairs, so avoid soft sand, deep gravel and steep grass.

Do reclining electric wheelchairs fold?

All three models here fold for transport and storage. Without the battery, the B10 weighs 18 kg, the L10 25 kg and the G10 30 kg, so the L10 and G10 are usually a two-person lift or need a ramp or hoist. If you lift the chair into a car every day, compare our lightweight folding range first.

What if I weigh more than 136 kg?

None of the chairs on this page are suitable, and a chair should never be used above its rated capacity. Please contact our team with the user's weight, seat width and how the chair will be used, and we will advise on higher-capacity options rather than recommend an under-rated chair.

Can NDIS fund a reclining electric wheelchair?

Yes, subject to your NDIS plan and approval. Reclining and higher-capacity power chairs are usually funded under Assistive Technology and often require an OT seating assessment. Tynor Australia is a registered NDIS provider and provides itemised quotes for self-managed, plan-managed and NDIA-managed participants. Request an NDIS quote.

Important note: Electric wheelchairs are assistive devices. Please check with your doctor, occupational therapist or physiotherapist to confirm the model, seat size, recline function and weight capacity are suitable for your condition and needs. Always stay within the chair's rated capacity. NDIS and Support at Home funding is subject to your plan and approval.
