Product Description

The Tynor Foot Drop Splint – Child (D-17) is a paediatric leaf-spring ankle-foot orthosis (AFO) designed to manage foot drop in children — where the front of the foot cannot be lifted. The semi-rigid polypropylene shell holds the foot in a neutral, dorsiflexed position to help stop the toes dragging, assist toe clearance during the swing phase of walking, and promote a more natural stepping pattern. Thin and lightweight, it is designed to be worn inside most children's shoes, and the contours can be customised by a clinician for a precise fit. Available for the left or right foot, with a choice of standard (without liner) or padded (with liner) versions.

  • Leaf spring action — Spring resilience adds bounce and assists toe clearance through the swing phase, helping improve gait.
  • Semi-rigid polypropylene shell — Firm support and stability while holding the foot in a neutral, dorsiflexed position.
  • Wearable inside the shoe — Thin, lightweight construction fits discreetly inside most children's footwear.
  • Anatomical footplate — Shaped for even weight distribution and comfortable positioning.
  • Hook-and-loop reverse-buckle straps — Secure, easy-to-adjust fastening for a snug fit.
  • Optional padded liner — The with-liner version adds a soft, hypoallergenic, latex-free foam lining for extra comfort against the skin.

The Tynor Foot Drop Splint – Child is intended to support and reposition a child's foot and ankle in the management of foot drop, under the direction of a qualified healthcare professional.

  • Foot drop in children (difficulty lifting the front of the foot)
  • Weakness or reduced control of the foot and ankle muscles
  • Peroneal or pretibial nerve or muscle injury
  • Foot drop associated with neurological or neuromuscular conditions
  • Ankle or plantar-flexion contracture
  • Post-operative foot and ankle support
  • Assistance with toe clearance during walking

ⓘ Important: This is a maximum-correction (5/5) paediatric foot-drop orthosis. Selection, sizing, fitting and any customisation must be carried out under the guidance of a qualified healthcare professional. The splint is side-specific — please order the correct left or right foot, and choose the with-liner or without-liner version as advised.

Use under the guidance of a qualified healthcare professional. Ensure the straps are firm without restricting circulation.

  1. Hold the foot drop splint in an upright position.
  2. Position the child's affected foot on the footplate, aligning it with the contours.
  3. Tighten the calf strap using the reverse-buckle mechanism.
  4. Fasten the ankle strap for proper alignment and grip.
  5. Insert the foot and splint into a shoe — remove the laces or choose a slightly larger shoe for easy placement.
  6. Re-tighten the laces and let the child walk.

What is it used for?
It helps manage foot drop in children by holding the foot in a neutral position and assisting toe clearance, supporting a more natural walking pattern, as directed by a healthcare professional.

What is the difference between the with-liner and without-liner versions?
The with-liner version (D-43) adds a soft padded lining for extra comfort against the skin; the without-liner version (D-17) is the standard shell. Choose as advised by your clinician.

Is it for the left or right foot?
It is side-specific — choose the version that matches the child's affected foot.

How do I choose the right size?
This is a single child size, based on the child's foot length / shoe size — check the size chart, and if between sizes, choose the larger one.
