Tynor Walker Boot Air Short D52 | Moon Boot Australia

The Tynor Walker Boot Air Short is a pneumatic air walker boot designed to assist immobilisation, ankle de-loading, and structured support of the foot and ankle during recovery from fractures, sprains, and post-operative conditions. An inbuilt pneumatic air compression system with bilateral air bladders fills the space between the boot and the leg, designed to provide customisable, pressure-point-free immobilisation without a traditional plaster cast. The wider rocker sole, rigid upright bars, and shock-absorbing insole are designed to allow early ambulation with a close-to-natural gait, while bilateral symmetry means the boot fits either foot. Supplied by Australian Healthcare Supplies, a registered NDIS provider based in Perth, Western Australia.
- Inbuilt pneumatic air compression system — Bilateral air bladders on the medial and lateral sides are designed to fill the space between the boot and leg, providing customisable compression and designed to eliminate pressure points — unlike fixed plaster casts.
- Wider rocker sole for close-to-natural gait — The rocker bottom sole is designed to assist a more natural walking pattern, helping to maintain normal gait mechanics during the recovery period and designed to assist in reducing compensatory strain on the knee, hip, and spine.
- Rigid upright bars for full ankle immobilisation — Sturdy foot casing with strong, rigid upright bars designed to provide full protection and structured immobilisation of the ankle and foot throughout the recovery period.
- Shock-absorbing insole — Designed to absorb the impact of heel strike during walking, assisting patient comfort and compliance during early ambulation with ankle and foot injuries.
- Inner foam liner with no pressure points — Cushioned foam liner designed to provide comfort and protect the skin, with the air bladder system designed to distribute compression evenly and eliminate localised pressure points.
- Easy independent application — Reverse buckle strapping mechanism designed to allow straightforward, independent application and removal, supporting good hygiene and wound care access throughout the recovery period.
- Bilateral symmetry — left and right foot compatible — Single design fits either foot; lightweight moulded construction designed to improve patient compliance during extended wear.
The Tynor Walker Boot Air Short may assist in managing and supporting recovery associated with the following conditions and procedures:
- Stable fractures of the fibula, talus, calcaneus, and medial malleolus
- Ankle sprains — moderate to severe, requiring structured immobilisation
- Post-operative recovery following ankle or foot surgery
- Achilles tendon injuries and repairs — as directed by treating clinician
- Stress fractures of the foot and lower leg
- Early cast removal — designed to substitute for or follow removal of a traditional plaster cast
- Early ambulation following ankle and lower leg fractures under clinical supervision
- General foot and ankle immobilisation where a removable structured boot is clinically indicated
Use under the guidance of a qualified healthcare professional. If your orthopaedic surgeon, physiotherapist, or GP has recommended a walker boot or moon boot, confirm product code D 52 with your clinician. NDIS participants should contact us to confirm funding eligibility.
- Loosen all straps and deflate the air bladders fully before application.
- Wear a clean sock over the foot and lower leg — do not apply directly to bare skin.
- Place the foot into the boot, ensuring the heel sits fully back and down in the heel cup.
- Fasten the straps from the bottom up using the reverse buckle mechanism, ensuring a firm and even fit.
- Inflate the air bladders using the inbuilt pump until a comfortable, even compression is felt on both sides of the ankle — firm but not tight or uncomfortable.
- Stand and take a short step to confirm the fit feels stable and comfortable before full weight-bearing.
- Deflate the bladders and loosen straps before removal. Wearing and removal schedule as directed by your treating clinician.
- 1 × Tynor Walker Boot Air Short D52 (size as selected)
- Inbuilt pneumatic pump (attached)
- Product instruction insert
- Wipe the outer shell and upright bars with a damp cloth — do not submerge in water
- Remove the inner foam liner and hand wash separately in mild detergent, water below 30°C
- Dry the liner flat in shade before reinserting — do not tumble dry or iron
- Check the air bladder valve and pump regularly for damage — do not use if the bladder is punctured or does not hold air
- Use under the strict guidance of a qualified healthcare professional
- Do not over-inflate the air bladders — excessive compression may restrict circulation; inflate only to comfortable, even pressure
- Discontinue use immediately and seek medical advice if you experience numbness, increased pain, skin breakdown, or changes in circulation
- Always wear a sock underneath the boot — do not apply directly to bare skin
- Deflate air bladders and remove the boot when sleeping or resting, unless specifically directed otherwise by your clinician
- Do not use as a substitute for a cast without explicit clinical authorisation — substitution for plaster cast must be directed by your treating orthopaedic surgeon or physician

What is the difference between the D52 Short and the D51 Tall walker boot?
The D52 is the short version, designed for injuries of the ankle and lower foot where lower coverage is clinically appropriate. The D51 is the tall version with higher coverage above the ankle, designed for injuries requiring greater lower leg immobilisation. Your treating clinician will advise which is appropriate for your injury and recovery stage.
Can it be used on both feet?
Yes — the Tynor D52 has bilateral symmetry and fits either the left or the right foot. No left/right specific version is required.
Can it replace a plaster cast?
The walker boot is designed as a removable alternative to, or successor for, a traditional plaster cast for certain ankle and foot fractures. Whether it is appropriate to substitute for a cast in your specific situation must be determined and directed by your treating orthopaedic surgeon or physician — do not self-prescribe cast substitution.
